Session Descriptions

The Importance of IT Hygiene for Attorneys

Tools like WiFi, smartphones, cloud computing, and other technologies that were non-existent twenty years ago are now indispensable to the modern practice of law. As attorneys, are we using these tools in a way that preserves our duty to our clients and to the public? Even the smartest and most diligent of attorneys can land herself in ethical hot water by being careless in her use of technology. In this CLE, we will explore what it means for an attorney to practice good IT hygiene and the potential consequences of failing to do so.

Digital Marketing

Lael Sturm will lead the session and answer your marketing questions with the goal of giving you actionable advice that you can put to work immediately to grow your practice. Lael has been working in digital marketing for over 20 years. His agency, LPSS supports businesses of all sizes (including a wide range of law firms) with one important thing in common: they all want to grow.

The key learning points will be:

  • How to use Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram to reach new clients
  • Content expertise as a marketing tool
  • What does success on social media look like?

Generations in the Workplace

From the Inside Out: What are the internal factors that drive success and how can you take control of them. Understanding how people are different and how we react to those differences helps us work better together and advance our diversity efforts in the legal community.  Trust is an integral part of our diversity efforts.  Learn how this effects our firms and how to manage the differences.

What You Should Know About Being an Employer

Whether you have one part-time college student working for you a few hours a week or a group of full-time associates and staff, there are laws and best practices you should follow. Federal, State and local labor laws change rapidly and at seemingly random times. Ms. Fairgrieve will share what should you know as an employer in San Francisco and the Bay Area and what documents you should have.

50 Risk Management Tips in 50 Minutes

Your firm’s Risk Management program is made up of ALL employees and partners in the firm.  Everyone needs to be invested and accountable.  Risk management is a firm-wide activity shared by everyone, both in quality control and risk avoidance.  Firms cannot survive long without assigning lawyers or staff to monitor conflicts and calendar.  In addition, financial oversight of client intake, billing and collections is also critical.  Managing risk well results in happy clients, the avoidance of costly claims and the long-term survival of your firm.

In this presentation, we will review the key policies and procedures to ensure that your firm provides ethical, high quality, and well-managed legal representation.
